Answers to common roofing questions

As a leading Auckland metal roofing specialist, we constantly get questions about roof replacement and maintenance. Here are some of the most commonly asked questions.

Knowing when to replace a roof is one of our most popular questions. There are several key signs that indicate roof replacement is in order, such as:

  • Bucking or curling shingles
  • Missing roof tiles or shingles
  • Algae growth or mould in your attic could be an indication of a leak

No. We will identify any hazards or areas to avoid, but you won’t need to vacate the premises.

The most popular time of year for roof replacement or re-roofing is spring and summer, but wintertime works as well. Our experienced roof installation team at Rooftech knows how to install a new roof without becoming damaged from cold temperatures.

We also make the temporary roof watertight as we go through the re-roofing process with commercial and residential projects. We are also mindful to only remove as much of the old roofing material that we will be able to replace that same day.

We don’t require access to the house – we do however require access to power. This is normally done by an extension lead left out the window.
The time taken to re-roof is totally dependent on the complexity of the roof structure and the location of the property. Typically, an average residential home re-roofing project can take 3 to 7 days. This is much higher for our commercial building re-roofing projects as they tend to be much larger and more complex.
We normally work a month in advance and advice you of the date we will commence work on your site after a booking is confirmed. Weather could cause delays in starting or completing a project, but we always keep you informed of changes.
Yes, we can insulate when we re-roof and this is a common service we provide. Insulating when the roof is off is ideal. However, we only offer insulation services to clients who get their roofs replaced with us. We do not offer insulation services independently.

We ONLY clean the spouting out or price for spouting replacement as part of our re-roofing works.

However, cleaning or fixing gutters is not a service we offer independently.

When re-roofing with ‘like for like’ material, consent is not required. However, we recommend contacting the local council before beginning any major alterations to your home or business premises.

We are Licensed Building Practitioners and fully insured. Whilst this is not a mandate for roofing contractors, it is certainly recommended.

Yes, you can convert your concrete tile roof into a metal one. This is a process we have done many times in the last 35 years and have seen great benefits to homeowners that have made the switch.
