At New Zealand Steel our slabs are heated in a natural gas-fired furnace before processing through the hot rolling mill.
The hot rolling process reduces the thickness to between 2mm and 50mm. Once cooled the plate is cut to length and the coil is sold or further processed through the cold rolling mills.
Hot rolled steel is produced in a number of grades each designed to be used in a range of applications like welded steel structural beams, storage tanks, flanges, welded pipe.
